Now one of my favorite rural places in China, I had never heard of Heqing before my research assistant and I decided to hop off of a bus there after seeing a lot of promising-looking rural vehicles to potentially research. We ended up shuffling our schedule to stay there for three days, and even after that, neither of us really wanted to go. Somewhere amidst the tightly packed mud-brick houses, verdant fields, and (this being China) construction sites, we’d momentarily forget our research task and pause to take it all in.
