Where and how information tends to gather around urban Amman – and the forms, materials, and differing degrees of formality and permanence it takes. Notable about the first example is the use of larger handwriting to attract from a distance, and the taping of a paper business card to the wall, visible upon closer inspection, perhaps meant to augment the apparent legitimacy/formality of the goods or services being advertised. Note the difference in both permanence and intended audiences in the wall-based writings next to the door and the paper sign above it, advertising a room for rent in both Arabic and English.
In the second example, an interesting repurposing of CD’s, taking advantage of their naturally reflective and attention-grabbing properties by drilling them into the wall and affixing cardboard to them, and on to which people may tack advertisements in the vestibule of this building.
