The social protocols of Tibetan monasteries scale in size to define the “polite use” of both the portable, carry-able heat source and the person-sized fireplace. Once the previous fire has expired, a bough of pine is placed in among the ashes to provide kindling for the next user’s fuel. Living indicators of “readiness”, or the available status of a heat source.
