Cone affordances

A trio of safety cones at the gate of a school have been modified in ways both visible and invisible.

More visible is how one of the security guards thought to fabricate and attach custom handles, after becoming frustrated with the tops of the cones gradually wearing down and snapping off through repeated lifting and shifting. Parts were procured via Taobao, handles fashioned by the guard himself.

The less visible, but just as palpable modification, is the hidden sandbags built into two of the three bases of the cones. This has them require more effort to move, and grants the pair greater stability, while leaving the third member of the trio relatively light and simple to maneuver quickly.

Consider the everyday objects that populate the world around you. What hidden affordances and modifications have been built into them in such ways that are only tangible when you try to interact with them?
