Here, a public institution serve as a replacement for nature or common objects as a frame of reference. Neither idealized nor poeticized, they are not meant to evoke any particular emotions, but to be as functional and staid as their namesakes. However, in choosing these naming conventions, what emotions does one get when one is told that this blue is not “sky blue”or “robin’s egg” but “telecommunications blue” – how does that encourage or dissuade? If the person you intend to use this color for takes issue with their calls constantly being dropped lately, would you elect to use another color? Even if you normally like green, would you still go with the particular pictured shade if your letters kept ending up at the dead letter office – especially if you really appreciated the recent upgrade in cellular network capacity in your area?
