Considering the prevalence of air conditioning units as a fixture on the sides of buildings here, it was perplexing to see that this one had been intentionally obscured. It doesn’t appear as if the structure is shielding the units from the elements in any way, so what statement are the managers of this building trying to make by concealing something that is normally left open to view? Although they may be trying to establish some sort of symmetry with the grate adjacent, it doesn’t appear as if they are succeeding. Perhaps a trend will emerge of other buildings concealing these ubiquitous (and suddenly undesirable/embarrassing) building accessories.
