While you would be hard-pressed to find a designer willing to go to bat against the benefits of simplicity, this Norman Door  in Lucerne, Switzerland shows what happens when the virtue of simplicity turns into a design failure that must be corrected.

What sort of thoughtful directions should have been designed into this door? Multi-lingual (or any) stickers are always an additional effort to bear, and run the risk of being misunderstood by an outside who doesn’t speak the language(s) of the stickers. In the near-future, to what extent will Google Translate make understanding different languages or instructions a matter of holding up one’s phone?
